Announcement of the monthly Triad NC ISSA chapter meeting for July:

  3. Presentation (7 p.m. to 8 p.m.): Penetration Testing: Case Studies, Trends and Metrics

Jay will discuss his views on the current Penetration Testing marketplace by walking through a number of case studies drawn from his experiences. He will also discuss trends that he is seeing from his work as well as how to measure penetration testing through metrics.


Jay Ward’s Bio:

Jay Ward is President and Principal Consultant at WireGhost Security, Inc. Jay has over 20 years of IT experience in network and system administration, program management, auditing and security.


He has provided security services for the Telecommunications, Banking and Financial, Health Care, Retail, Public Utilities and Manufacturing industries. He has performed security audits and assessments at over one-hundred organizations and has a proven track record of leading Information Security, Architecture and IT Strategy for both domestic and international enterprises.


Jay comes to us from previous positions at Symantec (via their acquisition of @Stake), the original “white-hat” security consulting company.  During his time at @Stake, Jay led network architecture, business risk assessment and penetration testing for such customers as: Daimler-Chrysler, The State of North Carolina, Kettering Health, The State of Tennessee, Bank of Butterfield, Miami-Dade County, Navy Federal Credit Union and Verizon.


Previous to @Stake, Jay served as an Sr. Security Architect for the Corporate Security Programs Office at Cisco Systems where he was responsible for, among other things, all M&A security ranging from $30M to $750M, the SME for Secure Servers and the PKI infrastructure.


Before these two roles, Jay served in various capacities as Sr. Level Engineer for various companies, including financial, healthcare and clinical trials organizations.


Jay has proven experience and expertise in the areas of security program design and review, vulnerability assessment and penetration testing, Incident Management planning and response, policy and procedure assessment and development, security technology training, and security project management.


Jay is also a published author, having written the definitive guide to hardening Windows Servers for FIRST.ORG


Jay has provided consulting for indigent clients in NC capital murder cases on a pro-bono basis.

Triad of NC Chapter of the ISSA

The Information Systems Security Association is a not-for-profit, international organization of information security professionals and practitioners. It provides educational forums, publications, and peer interaction opportunities that enhance the knowledge, skill, and professional growth of its members.

The Triad of NC chapter provides a local resource for information security professionals to get together, learn new things, and develop relationships with others in the industry. If you are involved in information security, full or part time, or are simply interested in the subject, this organization is a great way to learn and grow.

The Triad of NC chapter meets the 4th Thursday of each month January – October and the 2nd Thursday in November and December.  Meeting venues are generally rotated monthly between Dynamic Quest in Greensboro and Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem.
