With so many companies collecting huge amounts of our personal data, it has become clear that people need a way to manage their data and some assurance that it is being handled properly. Many countries in the European Union have had privacy laws for some time, but recent events spurred the creation of a new directive, the General Data Protection Regulation, to standardize all of the various laws into one. This new directive, which goes into effect in May, is really just the first in a series of new laws being passed in countries worldwide. This presentation will explain what the GDPR means, what it requires, and how it will have an effect on personal data security in the United States.
Dr. Scott Toth, CISSP, CCSP is the Information Security Officer for Volvo Financial Services where he works with senior management to ensure the security of corporate assets and is the deputy GDPR and Privacy Shield compliance program lead.
